Head Coach of the Zimbabwean national team, Michael Nees has expressed satisfaction with the facilities in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on Tuesday.

The Warriors opened their camp at the Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort on Saturday upon their arrival in Uyo and held their first training session at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking to Journalists after their training session, Nees confirmed his team faced some travel disruptions as their flight was cancelled, resulting in the loss of several hours, but added that once they arrived, they were quick to settle into their hotel, which the coach described as “fine” and spacious.

The Zimbabwe coach was also full of positive comments about the quality of the training pitch in Uyo, which he said was in excellent condition, offering a soft surface that allowed for easy movement without being too hard.

“You can see for yourself, we would be happy to have something like this in our own country – really very good and impressive. The training pitch is soft, not too hard. The stadium pitch, I expect even better,” he added.

Nees whose side is yet to record a win in the World Cup qualifiers after five matches, is confident the Warriors can pull a surprise against the Super Eagles in Uyo to revive their qualification bid.

With the Super Eagles boasting a strong team, Zimbabwe will need all the advantage they can gain from the facilities in Uyo to put up a competitive performance on Tuesday.
