26 A’Ibom Lawmakers Receive N127.1million Hardship Allowance

Twenty six( 26) lawmakers in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly received the sum of N127.1million as hardship allowance in the first and second quarter of 2024.

This was revealed in Akwa Ibom State budget performance report published by the state government.

The report covers government expenditures between January to September of 2024 fiscal year
The hardship allowance was introduced as part of allowances for lamakers in the state to compensate them for the recent economic hardship in the country.

Also, the budget performance report reveals that the state lawmakers received the sum of N45.4 million as legislative allowance for the period covering January to September 2024.

The Guide Newspaper reports that the state lawmakers also received other substantial allowances beyond their salaries.

Meanwhile, the budget performance report of Akwa Ibom State Government for first and second quarter of 2024 reveals that the state government spent the sum of 23.7 million for drugs, laboratory equipment and other medical supplies in all the hospitals across the state.

Interestingly, the 2025 fiscal document of Akwa Ibom State Government obtained by the Guide Newspaper reveals that though the state government budgeted the sum of N5,013,090.00 as Science Allowance for public schools in 2024, the state government failed to provide any funds for science teachers in public schools as Science Allowance within the period covered by the report.
