A general euphoria has been engulfing the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno following series of celebrations, ecstasy, joy and happiness that have come his way in the last one month.
Barely few weeks week after celebrating his Diamond Anniversary on earth, Governor Umo Eno has rolled out his drum with activities to usher in the maiden anniversary as the fifth democratically elected governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Wednesday, 29th May, 2024, was Pastor Umo Eno’s happiest day on earth as he celebrates his One Year Anniversary as a governor.
Pastor Umo Eno has every reason to celebrate, having emerged the governor against all odds, including scores of legal, political and social antics and battles.
As Governor Umo Eno arrived Uyo Township Stadium, venue of the event, acknowledging cheers from enthusiastic audience, it was dawn on him that he has neither been dreaming nor reading the title of the book capturing his numerous legal battles, ” It Came to Pass”.
It was a reality. He has been the Governor of Akwa Ibom State for the past one year.
Looking back, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno vividly recalled that on 29th May, 2023, he was sworn-in as the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom
State, with the challenge of building on the legacies of his predecessors and the task of keeping the ship of state sailing in the direction of progress and enviable development was enormous.
“He brought along with his compass (The ARISE
Agenda) to help him navigate safely to his
destination.
“The ARISE Agenda, encompass Agricultural
Revolution, Rural Development, Infrastructural
Maintenance/Advancement, Security
Management, and Educational Advancement.
“Barely one year in office, Governor Umo Eno has
already achieved remarkable milestones across
various facets of the ARISE Agenda, signaling a
commitment to transformative governance and
a dedication to the betterment of Akwa Ibom
State,” the introduction to the ARISE Scorecard read.
The one year anniversary has attracted overwhelming commendations and accolades.
As Aides and Staff in the Office of the Wife of the Governor rightly noted:
“It has been a great year of people-centric projects and actions, in keeping with the campaign promises and the needs of the people.
This great start is indicative of the next seven years.”
Reflecting of the past one year, Governor Umo Eno could raise his head high with pride in realization that he has done his best in serving the people.
“I have served Akwa Ibom people in the last one year with the integrity of my heart. I have done my best,” the governor noted on Tuesday, 28th May, 2024 in a media briefing with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council.
Among his major achievements is infrastructural expansion in the state.
“Infrastructure is the backbone of all development and we are determined
to provide critical infrastructure that will catalyse development in our state,” Pastor Umo Eno posited.
The month-long celebration began on Monday, 29th April, 2024 with the swearing in of newly promoted Permanent Secretaries in the state Civil Service at the Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo, where Governor Umo Eno sued for accountability and innovation.
The newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries are Mrs. Grace Akpan, Mr. Emma Udonsek, Dr. Emmanuel Iton, Ignatius Ekwere, Mrs. Elsie Peters, Dr. Igbemi Igbemi, Mr. Edet Nsungwara, Dr. John Orok, Dr. Abraham Inyangudoh, Mrs. Rose Stephen, Mrs. Affiong Ebieme, and Dr. Friday Ido.
Governor Eno noted that the new appointments became necessary to reposition the service to ensure efficiency in government business towards the full implementation of his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
“We are a Government of doers, not of excuses. The people of Akwa Ibom State elected us to work for them; therefore, we have no room for excuses. This applies to everyone that works with me, from my executive members in the council, my aides, and all those whom grace has found to be part of this administration.
“In the last eleven months, we have worked very hard to lay the foundation of our governance blueprint, from Agricultural revolution to rural development, infrastructural development, advanced security management, and educational advancement.
“As we begin to take stock of our service to Akwa Ibom State in the last one year, it is important that we move to ensure that we put in place the right structure that will continue to help us grow as a State; that is what has informed this swearing-in today,” the governor had said.
The event coincided with EXCO Ministerial Review that continued on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024.
On Wednesday, 1st May, 2024, Happy Governor Umo Eno celebrated with workers in the state, where made policy statement on issues affecting civil servants before rounding up the May Day with the Monthly Covenant Service.
May 2nd witnessed the donation of operational vehicles to security agencies in the state.
On Thursday, 3rd May 2024, Pastor Umo Eno commissioned 3.3 km Idua Road, Eket and Emergency Intervention at Collapsed Afia Nsit Road also in Eket before laying foundation for the Construction os Official Residence of Eket Local Government Chairman.
On 16th May, 2024, the governor commissioned the 160m span Nto-Ide-Ikot Amba Bridge with 800m Approach Road in Obot Akara Local Government Area.
On 17th May, 2024, Governor Umo Eno commissioned Primary Health Centre at Ikot Nkwot, Ibesikpo Local Government Area and CKS Model Primary School/Ewet Model Primary School.
May 20th, 2024 witnessed the opening and inauguration of the the Governing Council of Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, DASAC.
