-warns Head Teachers against illegal levies

A team from State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) embarked on inspection of primary schools in Eket Senatorial District on Wednesday to ensure compliance with the Akwa Ibom State School resumption date for second term session.
The school visiting and inspection team for Eket Senatorial District which was led by the Director School Services Mrs Mmandu Ekpenyong visited primary school across three local government areas compromising Okobo, Urue Offong Uroko and Oron Local Government Areas.
The tour started in Okobo L.G.A where the team visited St.Paul (RCM) Primary School, Odobo Okobo and met six pupils and four teachers including the Head Teacher on duty.
Addressing the teachers, Mrs Mmandu Ekpenyong urged teachers to take their work serious and ensure that they teach the pupils in their schools to compete favourable with their counterparts in Uyo and other cities.
At 10:45am, the team arrived Methodist School Nung Atai Odoro, Okobo and found six teachers on duty while 15 pupils were present in the school as at the time of the visit. Mrs Ekpenyong who expressed satisfaction with the turn out of pupils on the first week of resumption urged the teachers to write their note of lesson and begin teaching from the first week of resumption to ensure that they complete their syllables for the second term which is usually short.
The team also visited Methodist Central School Oyubia , Urue Offong Oruko where fifteen out of seventeen teachers reported for duty while six pupils were found in the school.
The inspection tour climaxed at Government Primary School Uya Oro, Oron Local Government Area where the inspection team met good number of pupils in their classes receiving lessons.
Giving a holistic appraisal of the inspection tour, the team leader Mrs Mmandu Ekpenyong expressed satisfaction that in majority of the schools visited, the teachers and pupils had resumed for the second term session. She used the opportunity to call on parents to release their children to go back to school and take good advantage of the free and compulsory education of the Akwa Ibom State Government to give their children good education to secure a better future for them.
The Director of School Services stated clearly that no teacher or Head Teacher is permitted to collect levy of any form from pupils as any staff found culprit would be duly punished.
The Director of School Services Mrs Mmandu Ekpenyong was flanked by other directors and staff from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) among whom were Director Social Mobilization, Mr James Ndon, Director of Quantity Assurance Mr Asuquo Eyo, Staff of School Services Mrs Grace Udoakah and Mrs Ekaette Asiek.
