Recently, Governor Umo Eno attended the graduation ceremony of trainees at Dakkada Skills Aquisition Centre(DASAC), Ikot Ada Idem in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. At the event, 240 trainees were graduated after spending one year to be equipped with sustainable life skills that has positioned them as employers of labour rather than job seekers in the society.
We recall that Dakkada Skills Aquisition Centre stands as one of the legacies of ex-Governor Udom Emmanuel, who built the centre while Governor Umo Eno brought the vision to full crystalization by providing all the needed support, constituting the technical team and harnessing the needed manpower from the academia for the smooth training of the pioneer trainees at the centre.
We commend Governor Umo Eno, who has shown strong determination in sustaining the legacies of past administrations in the State. The sweet fragrance of good governance can be sustained in our State when there is continuity of laudable legacies and programmes of past administrations. In less than two years in office, Governor Umo Eno has beamed a good light in this direction. By sustaining this legacy, Governor Eno has made ex-Governor Udom Emmanuel to be remembered in good light especially with the recent graduation of the first set of trainees.
Also, we join Governor Umo Eno in calling on corporate organizations, and other stakeholders in the State to key into the human capacity development component of the ARISE Agenda by sponsoring young people within their areas of operation to acquire skills at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Center (DASAC). The task of giving Akwa Ibom youths sustainable means of livelihood should not be left in the hands of the state government alone, corporate bodies, religious bodies and well-established individuals in the state should key into this vision.
We commend Amitec Construction Company for promising to sponsor some Akwa Ibom youths to receive training at the centre and call on others to emulate this example.
We will be delighted to see every willing youth in Akwa Ibom State been given the previlege to explore the vista of opportunities at DASAC.
Furthermore, we call on the state government to take another bold step by expanding the curriculum of DASAC to accommodate other entrepreneurial skills that are in demand in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large. Let the opportunities be vast enough to cater for the career interest of every Akwa Ibom youth who is willing to explore and enroll for training at the centre.
In conclusion, we believe that the task of equipping Akwa Ibom youths with sustainable skills is a clarion call that government and all other stakeholders who wish Akwa Ibom well should answer.
