The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), has requested the rescheduling of his interactive session with the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, initially slated for Thursday, April 17, 2025.
The committee, chaired by House Leader Prof Julius Ihonbvere, was inaugurated on Tuesday to probe the political crisis in Rivers State. Ibas made the request in a formal letter, which has been acknowledged, according to a statement by House spokesman Akin Rotimi. He noted that a new date for the session would be announced soon.
Meanwhile, a member of the House from Rivers State, Solomon Bob, has slammed the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over its criticism of the state of emergency declared in the state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Bob accused the NBA of hypocrisy and demanded the immediate refund of N300 million allegedly paid by the state government for its planned conference in Port Harcourt. He described the NBA’s defence of the fund as a “gift” as “unreasonable and unbecoming of a self-appointed ombudsman.”
Justifying the President’s proclamation, Bob said the deteriorating crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly had resulted in insecurity, threats of violence, and sabotage of petroleum infrastructure.
“The NBA cannot circumscribe or amend the clear, untrammelled and discretionary powers granted to the President by Section 305 of the Constitution,” he said.
He also accused the NBA of lacking the moral and constitutional standing to criticise government actions, alleging that the association itself is undemocratic.
