-Churns out N10m imprest monthly to mgt
The Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited (IPC) Engr Camellius Umoh has sacked 56 workers of the company after owing them three months salary.
An insider who did not want his name mentioned, said despite much taunted paucity of fund by the company’s management, the MD, still pays monthly imprest worth ten million naira to management staff and mid-level managers.
Some staff, according to information, had worked with the company as drivers, cleaners, and cook for over 15 years.
Speaking with The Guide, one of the affected staff said they were sacked on Monday 15 December, 2025.
In a letter dated 12 December and titled “Letter of disengagement/ end of contract,” the company informed the workers that their engagement would end at the close of the year.
“We write to formally notify you that your contract with Ibom Power Company Limited (IPC) will end on 31 December 2025.
“Consequently, all your financial entitlements arising from the said contract will be fully settled on or before 31 January 2026 in conformity with applicable terms,” the letter read.
The letter was signed by the company’s Secretary and Head of Corporate Services, Ime Asibong.
One of the affected staff who queried why the MD claimed there was no money in the company, yet still paying imprest to management staff as well as school fees of their children.
“There has been high level of misappropriation. Even when the current MD came in, we all thought he would correct the anomaly, but unfortunately, like his predecessor, he has begun spending money carelessly.
” We call on Akwa Ibom State Governor to come to our aide. It is rather sad that while civil servants in the state our enjoying 13 months salary from the Governor, those of us in Ibom Power are sent home empty handed.
“Some of us, because of the three months salary owed us, we were barely surviving through borrowing, but now, where do they expect us to get money and pay up the loans we collected to survive.” One of the sacked staff said.
Further investigation by The Guide showed that most of the workers sacked are from Ibibio tribe.
Few weeks ago, there was a call by some staff of the company over tribal disposition of the MD. The MD, an Annang man, is said to be developing strong ties with people from Annang ethnic group while relegation others to the background.
The sacking of mostly staff of the company from Ibibio extraction, further underscores the MD’s alleged deep hatred for the Ibibio people.
