Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has rejoined South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United, five months after leaving the club by mutual consent.
The club confirmed the Nigerian international’s return in a statement posted on its official X account on Sunday ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club said. “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
Nwabali, 30, has been without competitive club football since parting ways with Chippa United in February 2026. At the time, both the player and the club agreed to terminate his contract following a formal request by the goalkeeper to leave.
Announcing his departure earlier this year, Chippa United thanked the Nigerian shot-stopper for his professionalism and commitment throughout his time at the club.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the club said.
Nwabali joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and established himself as one of the club’s key players. His reputation grew significantly after his outstanding performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he played a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles reach the final.
Following his exit from Chippa United and the absence of a new club, Nwabali saw limited involvement with the Super Eagles, missing several national team matches.
His return to the Chilli Boys is expected to provide him with regular playing time as he looks to regain top form ahead of upcoming club and international competitions.
