The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, has commissioned a new healthcare facility, Trust Point Diagnostic Limited, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Idem said the diagnostic centre was established by one of his constituents, Mr Ifiok Ituen, who was among the 1,000 beneficiaries of his One Billion Naira Family-Based Business Empowerment Initiative launched in December 2025.
Speaking at the commissioning, Idem said the establishment of the facility was evidence of the impact of the empowerment initiative and his sponsorship of constituents for specialised training in China.
According to him, each of the 1,000 beneficiaries of the family-based empowerment programme received N1 million to establish or expand their businesses.
He said the financial support was complemented by opportunities for selected beneficiaries to acquire additional knowledge and technical skills through exposure to modern technology and practical training abroad.
Idem disclosed that Ituen, who benefited from the initiative, was also sponsored by him to China for specialised training relevant to his chosen field.
He explained that the diagnostic equipment installed at Trust Point Diagnostic Limited was purchased in China during the period of the training.
“This is a clear demonstration of how our empowerment programmes are designed not merely to provide financial assistance, but to equip our people with the knowledge, exposure and tools required to build sustainable enterprises,” Idem said.
The lawmaker expressed satisfaction that Ituen had successfully combined the financial support received under the One Billion Naira initiative with the knowledge and exposure acquired during his China training to establish the diagnostic centre.
He said the development reflected the objective behind the empowerment initiatives, which was to provide constituents with resources, skills and opportunities to become self-reliant, create jobs and contribute to the development of their communities.
Idem described Trust Point Diagnostic Limited as one of the tangible outcomes of the interventions, expressing confidence that the facility would provide quality diagnostic services while creating employment and other economic opportunities for residents of the area.
He reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives aimed at empowering constituents to become productive and self-reliant, while building sustainable livelihoods for themselves, their families and communities.
The lawmaker said the success of beneficiaries such as Ituen remained a source of encouragement to sustain interventions that directly improve the economic wellbeing of constituents.
