A prominent socio-cultural and political advocacy organization, the Ibibio Vanguard, has extended warm congratulations to the government and people of Akwa Ibom State as the state marks its 39th anniversary, noting that the state is growing stronger, more united, and economically resilient.
In a pres statement issued by its National Secretary, Comrade Silas Udom, to commemorate the milestone, the group lauded the collective sacrifices of the state’s founding fathers, civil society groups, and successive administrations, noting that the state has made remarkable progress since its creation in September 1987 from the former Cross River State.
Reflecting on the state’s trajectory over nearly four decades, the leadership of Ibibio Vanguard highlighted Akwa Ibom’s transformation from a predominantly rural sub-national area into one of Nigeria’s premier destinations for investment, modern infrastructure, and aviation, emphasizing that the spirit of brotherhood and shared values among the people have remained the bedrock of the state’s enduring stability.
Comrade Udom further noted that 39 years of statehood represent a significant epoch of transformation, peace, and industrial expansion.
“As we celebrate 39 years of statehood, we look back with immense pride at how far God has brought Akwa Ibom State,” he stated. “From a modest beginning with limited infrastructure, our state has grown into a beacon of modern development, peace, and economic potential in the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large. The story of Akwa Ibom is one of resilience, unity, and an unyielding commitment to progress.”
The group praised Governor Umo Eno for his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and rural transformation under the ARISE Agenda, specifically commending ongoing investments in healthcare, model schools, agricultural revival, and road infrastructure connecting rural communities to urban economic centers across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Addressing the political atmosphere, the Ibibio Vanguard called on all sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom State, both at home and in the diaspora, to safeguard the peace and harmony enjoyed across the state, urging political leaders, youth organizations, and community stakeholders to rise above partisan and ethnic sentiment, emphasizing that state development thrives best in an atmosphere of mutual respect and political stability.
“Statehood anniversaries afford us an opportunity to renew our social contract with one another,” the statement continued. “We urge all Akwa Ibomites to remain united behind the shared vision of a prosperous state. Political differences must never be allowed to tear the social fabric that unites us as one people with a common heritage.”
The group concluded its statement by reaffirming its dedication to advocating for peace, good governance, and socio-economic empowerment across all local government areas, expressing optimism that the upcoming decades will bring even greater advancement for the state and its citizens.
