The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, PhD, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Legislative Leadership and Digital Policy Innovation from the Pan African Awards Leadership & Accolades (PAALA).
The award recognises Idem’s contributions to legislative leadership, constituency development and human capital investment. Although the fifth edition of the PAALA Awards Gala was held in Washington, D.C., United States, in August 2026, the award was presented to the lawmaker in Abuja by the organisation’s founder, Ambassador Dr. Elisha Attai.
According to a statement by Idem, the recognition reinforces his commitment to purposeful legislation, innovative policymaking and public service aimed at improving lives.
Attai said the lawmaker’s nomination followed a review of his contributions to legislative leadership and constituency development, including the sponsorship of more than 30 bills and several motions in the National Assembly.
The PAALA founder also highlighted Idem’s interventions in rural electrification, road infrastructure, education, healthcare, information and communication technology (ICT) development and employment facilitation.
His human capital development initiatives, including scholarships, skills acquisition programmes, ICT training, business grants and the ₦1 billion Family-Based Empowerment Programme, were also cited among the achievements recognised. The programme is designed to support 1,000 beneficiaries.
Idem said he was encouraged to receive the honour alongside other Africans and people of African descent whose contributions span public service, energy, healthcare, technology, media, trade, gender equality, law and the creative arts.
He noted that PAALA had, since its establishment, recognised individuals whose leadership and achievements have contributed to communities across the world. Previous editions were held in Atlanta, Georgia, and Houston, Texas, before the 2026 event in Washington, D.C.
The lawmaker also referenced Attai’s description of the 2026 awards as a celebration of legacy, sacrifice and impact, recognising leaders who have helped others advance.
He expressed appreciation to the organisers, his constituents, colleagues and supporters, pledging to sustain his efforts towards legislative excellence, digital policy innovation and development in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency and Nigeria at large.
