Popular comedian and activist, Adebowale Adedayo, affectionately known as Mr. Macaroni, led a heartfelt peace walk in Lagos on Friday, October 20, marking the third anniversary of the tragic Lekki shooting incident, a turning point in the #EndSARS protests.

During this solemn occasion, Mr. Macaroni made a fervent appeal for the release of #EndSARS protesters who have been unjustly detained for three years.

The peace walk served as a poignant remembrance of the lives lost on October 20, 2020, during the Lekki shooting incident, which ultimately led to the conclusion of the #EndSARS demonstrations. Mr. Macaroni’s impassioned call for justice and the release of detained protesters resonated with the gathered crowd.

In his address, he emphasized the importance of peaceful protest, stating, “The peace walk is to honor all those that lost their lives on October 20, 2020. We’ve done that. We want to walk back, but the police don’t want us to walk back. We don’t want to give them a reason or an excuse to fire at us. We’ve been on this for three years now, and we know what they are capable of doing.”

Mr. Macaroni used the occasion to highlight the plight of those who have been imprisoned for their participation in the #EndSARS movement, some since 2020. He expressed his concern for their continued detention, despite legal efforts to secure their release.

“I want to use this opportunity to call for the unconditional release of all those protesters that are still in prisons. There are still some protesters who have been in prison since 2020. Lawyers have been on the cases, different shouts every day, but till now they are still there,” he declared.

The peace walk was a poignant reminder of the need for justice and the unrelenting pursuit of freedom for those who have been incarcerated for their participation in the #EndSARS movement. It served as a powerful call to action for all concerned parties to work toward the unconditional release of these detained protesters.
