Minister of State, petroleum resources (Gas) Rt. Hon. (Obongemem) Ekperikpe Ekpo has paid his maiden visit to his extended family since his appointment as Minister of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The event took place at the Minister’s ancestral home at Ikot Udom, Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking at the event, Ekpo expressed his happiness to sit with his extended family members for the first time as a minister. The former Ika Local Government helmsman thanked God for elevating him to such position and President Bola Tinubu for finding him worthy to be in his cabinet. He also thanked the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, whom he described as a brother.
Ekpo said the event was organized to afford him the opportunity of celebrating Christmas with his extended family. He charged the Ubon Udoekpo family members to continue to love one another and foster unity in the family, adding that without love and unity nothing much can be achieved.
“My message to you is to continue to love one another and remain united in this family. This is the only way we can move forward…” the Minister said.
Ekpo, a former lawmaker, representing Abak, Ika, Etim Ekpo Federal Constituency assured them that he would continue to do his best for the family, Ika Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.
The minister donated bags of rice, cash and other items to the family for Christmas and new year celebrations.
Earlier in his homily, the Ikot Udom Parish priest, Very Rev. Canice Ekpo urged Ubon Udoekpo family members to continue to pray for their son, whom God has chosen to bless, adding that such prayers would enable the Minister to succeed.
“You must continue to pray for your son, whom God has chosen to elevate. The task ahead of him is enormous and I believe your prayers will make him succeed” the Catholic Priest charged.
The event featured thanksgiving mass, decoration of Rt. Hon. (Obongemem) Ekperikpe Ekpo and wife, Esitmbom as worthy son and daughter of Ubon Udoekpo family, goodwill messages, Choral renditions and cultural displays.
