Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden, has matriculated a total of 3,236 new intakes into 8 faculties of the University.
The 15th matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic year was held at the University’s convocation arena, Ikot Akpaden, on Saturday.
Addressing the new students during the oath taking event, the Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden, Professor Nse Essien, advised the new intakes of the institution to shun all forms of cybercrime as they attract severe penalties.
Professor Essien who highlighted both the positive and negative effects of new media on the lives of their users, however, warned that any student who falls victim to the negative effects of it would be held to account for his or her actions on campus.
“The new media has both positive and negative effects. Avoid all forms of cybercrime, there are penalties. Remember that you are responsible for all your actions. Your head of department, the Dean of Students Affairs and Academic Advisors, are always available to attend to your concerns”, Essien said.,
The Vice Chancellor, while congratulating the freshers for working hard to gain admission despite the rigorous screening exercise, admonished them to embrace every opportunity to learn, grow and discover, urging them to allow discipline, integrity, and faith in God to rule their stay in the University
He also advised them to be resilient and brace through challenges in order to celebrate victory at the end of their academic programme
“I congratulate you for working hard to earn your place here, and today, you officially become a member of this prestigious academic institution
“As you commence this journey, I admonish you to embrace every opportunity to learn, grow and discover. Let discipline, integrity, deligencw and faith in God be your compass.
”There may be challenges, be resilient so that you can celebrate victories. Be reminded that while academic success is paramount, you must be found worthy in character because your attitude defines the kind of graduate you will become “. Essien said
