The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Abba Yusuf as Governor of Kano State, reversing the decision of the Court of Appeal and the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which sacked the governor. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the former Minister of Power and Steel, Mr Olu Agunloye, before Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High court, over allegations of fraud. Mr Agunloye was brought before the court on Wednesday where he pleaded not guilty to the charges read against him. The Judge ordered that he be remanded in Kuje Correctional center, pending when the bail would be granted. Eleven people including four children and a grandchild of a couple have lost their lives in a boat mishap in Rivers State. The accident happened on Monday when a wooden boat from Ngo, the headquarters of the Andoni Local Government Area, to Bonny capsized on the Bonny river after a turbulent wave. The relatives were among the twenty five passengers on board the boat. They were traveling together with their parents who incidentally were the owners of the boat. The 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State, Umar Ardo, has withdrawn his appeal against Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s re-election at the Supreme Court. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized the travel documents of suspended minister Betta Edu and her predecessor Sadiya Umar-Farouq who are being probed for various alleged financial malfeasance during their separate stewardship of the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry.
