Bayelsa State High Court sitting in Yenagoa has sentenced four convicts to death by hanging over alleged conspiracy and kidnapping. They convicts are Manager Etonzor, Daniel Derietiedei, Inimotimi Rufus and Tari Firstman. On Wednesday, the presiding Judge, Justice Patience Diri, in the suit numbered YHC/43c/2021, found the four persons guilty of the allegations of conspiracy and kidnapping under Section 2 (1) of the Bayelsa State Law 2013. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has assured that the Federal Government is prepared to receive Nigerians who may be deported from the United States. This is coming following the identification of 3,690 Nigerians among 1.4 million individuals classified as “illegal migrants” with deportation orders by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Activist Omoyele Sowore on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to cybercrime charges the police instituted against in Abuja for referring to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun as “illegal IGP”. The president of the Africa Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina has said that about 600,000 women and children in Africa die every year from cooking with firewood and charcoal. He further noted that 1.2 billion African women do not have access to clean cooking sources, leaving them to inhale smoke from using firewood and charcoal. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said that the government deported about 828 illegal immigrants. Speaking at a media parley in Abuja in 2024 on Tuesday, he said the exercise was carried out by the operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). However, the minister did not make mention of any criminal acts or criminal elements among those who were sent out of the country.
