The APC led government of Governor Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom State has received strong condemnation from Akwa Ibom people for earmarking N800 million for the empowerment of non-indigenous communities, including Igbo, Yoruba, and Arewa in Akwa Ibom State.

It would be recalled that Governor Umo Eno last Saturday, November 15, announced that his administration has earmarked N800million to empower non indigenes in Akwa Ibom State, while attending Ohaneze Ndigbo Akwa Ibom chapter Unity Day celebration which took place at Ibom Hall Ground in Uyo.

The gesture which many citizens of Akwa Ibom State have described as another impulsive spending from Governor Umo Eno received negative reaction from Akwa Ibom internet community users shortly after the news posted Facebook Social Media platform.

Reacting to the news, a citizen of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Catherine Olabayo wondered why Governor Umo Eno would earmarked such amount to non- indigenes living in Akwa Ibom State, while many Akwa Ibomites do not have any gainful employment in the state.

Hear her: “I don’t just understand what Gov Eno is up to. Why are you earmarking such a huge amount of money for the empowerment of non indigenous of the State?. Which other State has ever done such for your own citizens?. Have created jobs for all Akwa-Ibomites?, what about Infrastructures?, how much have you earmarked for the Sons and daughters of Akwa-Ibom origin who are not yet gainfully employed?, have you finished empowering them?. The State’s resources are not for frivolities but for meaningful development.”

According to Prince Samuel Joseph, Governor Eno should be advised to begin his charity with Akwa Ibom people which who elected him to save them.

“Someone should tell the pastor that charity must begin at home even the holy book said so, when will he starts the true empowerment for the Akwa ibom people not political kind of it where a local Politician of an area will download the names of his family members and friends and tag it to be empowerment. Anyway am not surprised this is always the behavior of our leaders, he is not the first to start,” Prince Samuel Joseph said.

Another Facebook user Michael UbonAbasi while reacting to the post said: “How much does Rivers,Cross Rivers,Imo,Abia,Kano, Zamfara, Lagos States etc empowers Akwaibomites to foster unity in their States? Recently Mboho Mkparawa IBIBIO property acquired legitimately in Surulere was demolished. What do you call that? This is #800 millions shared to others”

Also commenting, Mr. Ufonima Unanam said: “With so much poverty rife in Akwaibom state…our governor is earmarking #800,000000 million for non indigent Yoruba, Arewa and Igbo while our sons and daughters don’t have house rents to pay in the Arewa ,Yoruba and Igbo communities.. this is indeed a pyrrhic victory. The same amount can be prioritize into boosting local farmers, short term loans etc..I need to be educated on this misplacement of priority.”
