We have observed with dismay that the razzmattazz of politics has overwhelmed the echo of governance in Akwa Ibom State. Recently, Akwa Ibom State has been thrown into chaos, with the state witnessing new dimensions of political tension, mistrust among government appointees and heated political debate ahead of 2027 general election.
The recent outcry by Governor Umo Eno warning other politicians in the state to stop struggling for political structures with him was a complete distraction coming from the Governor who is supposed to focus on his core duty of delivering good governance to the people he was elected to serve.
In just two years since Pastor Umo Eno assumed office as the governor of Akwa Ibom State, he has been overwhelmed with the politics of his second term bid. The governor’s quest to hijack existing political structures in Akwa Ibom State from his perceived opponents has distabilized his cabinet, creating an atmosphere of distrust and suspicion between the governor and his cabinet members.
Sadly, this growing distrust among government appointees in Akwa Ibom State is worsened by the repeated threats from Governor Umo Eno to sack any political appointee found identifying with his perceived political enemies.
We wish to state that the current erratic political atmosphere in Akwa Ibom State is anthetical to good governance. No political appointee performs well in an atmosphere of distrust, threats of disengagement as currently witnessed in Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
We urge Governor Umo Eno to stop creating unnecessary political tension in Akwa Ibom State with his ungaurded utterances and focus on delivery his core mandate of good governance which he was electted to serve the people.
