On Tuesday, Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, while addressing government appointees, stakeholders and senior bureaucrats at the swearing-in of Mrs. Elsie Anietie Peters as the new Head of Service in Akwa Ibom State, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, issued a stern warning that his administration will not tolerate any of his appointees working against his government in the State.
According to Eno, “…Everybody will not agree with us, and that is understood and that is allowed, but what we will not tolerate is for people to believe that they can be in government and be working against the government…Every action carries a consequence. And I say it again: either you carefully and quietly leave, and we will be glad to receive resignations, than to stay inside and begin to rock the boat. We will not tolerate it, and that is the truth.”
The warning comes shortly after two of his aides were relieved of their appointments for joining other PDP delegates from Akwa Ibom State to attend the just concluded PDP National Conference in Ibadan.
We are astonished that Governor Umo Eno is preaching and demanding absolute loyalty from his aides few months after he openly said on camera before his defection to APC that he will still be in control of PDP in Akwa Ibom State even when he has left the party.
It is equally ironical that Governor Eno is insisting that his appointees who remain in PDP must step aside, but at the same time, the governor is retaining and parading the sacked Akwa Ibom State PDP Chairman, Mr. Aniekan Akpan in all public gatherings in Akwa Ibom State, presenting him as a symbol of his much acclaimed “Unity government” in the State.
We want Governor Umo Eno to know that political principles cannot be selective, if he wants absolute loyalty from his appointees, he should wash his hands off PDP affairs in Akwa Ibom State and advise Hon. Aniekan Akpan which he has obviously bought over, to formally resign from PDP and join him in APC.
He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. This will remove confusion, uphold fairness, and reinforce the integrity of the governor’s realignment efforts.
