- ..Says elders are liars who deny feeding fat from his govt.
…Vows not to do any more road in the Fed. Constituency
“All Political Elders in Ikono/Ini should be ashamed of themselves!” – Prof. Okon
Elders, Stakeholders and indigenes of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency went back with spits on their faces from the venue of the Federal Constituency Townsquare meeting held in Ikono Local Government Council today, August 21, 2025.
In a rather scornful and disrespectful tone, Governor Umo Eno while making his remarks at the event took his time to scold the elders and stakeholders of the two Local Government whom he said were characteristically full of lies and have never for once admitted that they were feeding fat from his government.
In a tone which revealed the Governor’s frankness, he said “These elders sitting here are all liars. They will come to tell you that Governor is not giving them anything, yet they are feeding fat from my government. What annoys me most is that they continue to kneel down and beg me to be a part of my government. Government after government they want to belong in the corridors of power”
Governor Umo Eno also said as payback for the people of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, he would initiate any road project in the two Local Government Areas, except if he has the chance to return as Governor.
Hear the Governor “Well you people have said here today that you have repented. But then I have to be truthful to you all. All road (contracts) have closed for you people. I am not going to award any road contract to this Federal Constituency. If you need any road, note it down, support me and if I make it back as Governor I will try to do it”
Meanwhile, strong reactions have already begun to trail the Governor’s comments at the Townsquare meeting as a renowned Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Benin, an indigene of Ikono Local Government, Professor Ibanga Okon, has lambasted the Political Elders, Commissioners and Government Appointees from the two Local Government for having the stomach to sit through the event while the Governor insulted their heritage, without the elders and stakeholders staging a workout from the sacrilegious gathering.
Professor Okon who personally took to his Facebook page to express his displeasure over the comments of the Governor and the zero reaction by the people wrote: “This is one of my saddest day as an Ikono son. How could people like the Commissioners from the two LGAs, House of Representatives member, House of Assembly members, both past and present could sit there and the Governor visits our common heritage, our Federal Constituency which is the cradle of the Ibibio race and desecrate our Land with such insulting words. What did we do to deserve such gutless elders from my Federal Constituency. They should have staged a workout at that event and the heavens will not fall. Now to crown it, he has sworn not to do a single kilometre of road in a Federal Constituency. What a shame. What a day!!”
