PRESS RELEASE

GOVERNOR UMO ENO’S UNPATRIOTIC OVERTURES TOWARDS IBIBIO ETHNIC GROUP: MATTERS ARISING!

Ibibio Vanguard, a socio-cultural group in Akwa Ibom State serving as an unabated voice of the Ibibio people, promoting the cherished values of patriotism and resilience of the Ibibios has deemed it necessary to make public, her genuine concerns about the recent sad trajectory of Ibibio ethnic group in Nigeria. Hence, the leadership of Ibibio Vanguard wishes to make the following observations:

1. That Ibibio Vanguard has observed with utmost shock and dismay, the unpatriotic overtures of Governor Umo Eno towards the Ibibio ethnic groups in Akwa Ibom State, and feel duty-bound to draw the attention of the good people of the Akwa Ibom State to Pastor Eno’s unfeigned bias, neglect and lack of respect for Ibibio ethnic group since his assumption of office as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

2. That Ibibio Vanguard is worried about the deafening silence of Governor Eno in the face of glaring despondency of Ibibio race in recent days since the demolition of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio property — which housed Mboho Secretariat and Community Centre — by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), an agency of the Lagos State Government.

3. That Ibibio Vanguard is surprised that Governor Umo Eno who never considered it expedient to honour his kith and kin during the celebration of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio 38th Anniversary in Akwa Ibom State which was marked with the installation of Usonyin (Dr) Solomon Etuk, the Oku Ibom Ibibio as the fourth grand patron of the organization, has identified with and honoured the Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide (Akwa Ibom Chapter) with his presence on their Igbo Unity Day Celebration which held today 15th November, at Ibom Hall Ground, Uyo. Whereas No governor in the South South or any region in Nigeria has ever attended Ibibio day or Akwa Ibom day celebration in their state.

4. That Ibibio Vanguard is very much aware that the Governor is planning to host all the sociocultural groups in Akwa Ibom State early next year to garner support for his second term endorsement.

5. That Ibibio Vanguard is equally very much away that Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Ibibio Elders Forum, Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio and many other sociocultural groups in Ibibio land will be at the forefront of endorsing Governor Eno for a second term in order to get peanuts from him not minding how he has sabotaged the interest of the Ibibios for the past two years since his assumption of office as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

6. Finally, that history will continue to bear witness in the nearest future that it was under Governor Umo Eno’s watch that Ibibio ethnic group was humiliated and relegated to the background in Akwa Ibom State.

Signed:

Otuekong Bassey Inwang
Chairman

Francis Udoh Esq
Secretary General
