Hon Moses Essien: YPP Assembly member decamps to PDP in Akwa Ibom
The member of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon Moses Essien, has resigned has membership from YPP and decamped to the People’s Democratic Party ,PDP.


This contained in a letter addressed to the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, on Monday, 29th April, 2024, notifying him of his intention and decision to join PDP.
Hon Moses Essien who represents Ibiono Ibom State Constituency cited the “division within YPP Leadership in Akwa Ibom State” as party of the reason for his resignation.
“I write to notify you that I have officially resigned my membership from the Young Progressives Party-YPP to the People’s Democratic Party – PDP.
“The reason for this action is based on the division within YPP Leadership in Akwa Ibom State, where the Governorship candidate of YPP, State Chairman, officers and stalwarts of the party decamped from the party to All Progressive Congress-APC, thereby, leaving the party in the state with no tangible structures to fall back on.
“However, I appreciate the Leadership of YPP in the State and the National for giving me the veritable platform to be elected into the State House of Assembly.
“Consequently, I hereby declare my intention hereforth to dedicatedly work with PDP for the betterment of my constituents.
Please accept the assurances of my highest esteem,” Hon. Moses Essien stated.
[The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared Hon Moses Essien as winners of the February 2024 rerun elections for House of Assembly in Akwa Ibom State.alongside another Young Progressives Party candidate ,Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, who won Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency seat.
Their emergence was a setback for the PDP political dominance in Akwa Ibom politics since the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999.
Hon Moses Essien’s decamp to the PDP is a major win to Governor Umo Eno who is celebrating his maiden anniversary in a month time.
