NAFDAC employees call for equitable wages, improved working conditions

The employees at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have a clear mission: to protect the health of millions of Nigerians. However, they feel that their efforts and sacrifices are largely unrecognized.

In a request to the Federal Government, NAFDAC staff have called for immediate improvements to their salaries and working conditions.

This appeal was made in a letter dated February 24, co-signed by Jerry Makeri, the acting Chairman of the NAFDAC Branch of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, and Secretary Aledeh Ahmed.

The letter highlights the challenging reality faced by workers who risk their lives daily, from laboratory scientists testing hazardous products to field officers tackling counterfeit drug manufacturers, all while receiving what they consider insufficient pay.

“NAFDAC staff are the unsung heroes whose relentless efforts and professionalism ensure public health safety,” the letter states. “However, their salaries and welfare do not reflect their vital role in the country.” Part of the letter read
