Preparations are top gear for the pioneer private University in Akwa Ibom and Cross State, Obong University to honours the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno with the degree of Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa.
This is even as the University graduates 598 students while presenting the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Edidem Joe NtokObom XII with the degree of Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa.

The Vice Chancellor of Obong University, Prof. Udo Udo Ekanemesang stated this on Saturday at the campus annex in Uyo during a Press Conference ahead of the institution’s combined convocation ceremony scheduled for April 20th, 2024.
Activities marking the occasion will commence on 19th April, 2024 at its Ben Jones Auditorium, Obong Ntak, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State with a Convocation Lecture entitled “Nigeria: A Resource-rich Nation in Crisis – Are there any Solutions?”
He said the lecture will be delivered by a renowned Nigerian Professor of Economics and Public Policy, Prof. Akpan Ekpo, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, who is also a former Director General of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) owned by the Central Banks of English–speaking West African States which he ran for almost 20 years.

Ekanemesang, a professor of Chemistry however described Gov Umo Eno as a good manager of men and resources, sustaining the peace legacy of the past administration with positive impact on humanity whose good Leadership ingenuity has attracted the institution which pride itself as a Faith based organization sponsored by the Church of Christ to look inward by conferring on him the honorary doctorate degree.
Speaking further, the Vice Chancellor noted that the event which is a combined 9th to 13th convocation aimed at celebrating the passing out of students from 2018/2019 to 2022/2023 academic years.
The Vice Chancellor in his elated mood was optimistic that the University which is probably not very well known because it is located in a remote village on the preferred route to Abia and Rivers States will sooner than later surpass some of its better known institutions in the acquisition of academic reputation in Nigeria and in the world.
According to him, “the upcoming convocation which will be concluded on 20th April, 2024 will involve 598 students drawn from 14 academic departments with almost 90% full accreditation.
“the Alumni Association of the the university will hold a reunion assembly and elections from 9 am. The campus will be abuzz with activities hitherto not witnessed on this campus since the 65th wedding anniversary of the founder of the university.
“The ceremony will also include the presentation of prizes for the best graduating students in the various programmes as well as showcasing the best graduating First Class student in the five years.
“For the encouragement of parents, sponsors, guardians and other members of the public, we would like to reassure everyone that the fear of the militants, which had hitherto almost spoilt the joy and fun of those who enjoyed our conducive, academic-friendly environment, and we would like to state that the past threat of insecurity has been removed”, he concluded.
