The Member representing Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, on Thursday, donated relief materials to the people of Itak Abasi Village in Ibeno Local Government Area, whose community was recently ravaged by ocean surge.
Presenting the materials, the Federal Lawmaker, who was represented by a former Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Council, Hon. Sunday Isokobo, and a former Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Hon. Ekoakwaha Etteh, sympathised with the people for the calamity that befell them, saying “though your pain and loss is ours, being alive today gives us a glimmer of hope. This is a moment that reminds us of the power of unity, togetherness, and compassion, and it underscores the importance of extending a helping hand to those in dire need.”
“As your brother and representative, I have alerted government attention to your plight through a motion on the need to complete the shoreline protection project. I am very passionate about this because the ocean surge that has devastated this community has left many families without shelter, food, clean water, and other necessities. By the grace of God, there is hope for us all,” he said.
While assuring the people of the area of a permanent solution soon, Hon. Etteh maintained that his visit to Itak Abasi Village was “as a collective force of empathy and sincere generosity. I have brought the little that I can as succour. These materials are not just physical items; they represent a lifeline and a sign that you are not alone in your struggle and that we are here to stand by you.”
In his remarks during the disbursement of the relief materials, the Councillor representing Ward-2 in the Ibeno Legislative Council, Hon. William Monday, thanked the Federal Lawmaker for his kindness, show of love, and kind gesture to the people of the area.
Others who spoke, including a Family Head, Chief Sunday Uko Harry; the Political Leader of Ward-2 and pioneer Councellor, Hon. Harry Uko; Mr. Moses Enyina and Mr. Uduyok Adasi, also thanked Hon. Etteh for always being very responsive to the yearnings, aspirations, and condition of his people. They prayed to God to prosper him more for the people.
The items distributed included bags of Garri, bags of Rice, bags of Beans, Salt, cartoons Tomatoes, and seasonings.
