OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF AKWA IBOM STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY PASTOR UMO ENO
Your Excellency,
CALL FOR CAUTION ON THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF IBIONO IBOM LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, HON ASUAKAK UMOH AGAINST INTERFERING IN PDP AFFAIRS
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibiono Ibom Chapter, has observed with dismay, the reckless attempt by the Executive Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Hon. Asuakak Umoh, to interfere in the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibiono Ibom despite the fact that he, Hon Umoh, had defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP in Ibiono Ibom views Hon Asuakak Umoh’s action as an affront on democracy and insult on the collective sensibilities of the good people of Ibiono Ibom who are strongly behind the PDP.
Arising from today’s meeting of PDP Ward Chairmen in Ibiono Ibom, we wish to categorically state as follows;
1) As a member of the APC, Hon Asuakak Umoh does not have any right to meddle into the affairs of PDP and therefore cannot control the structure of PDP.
2) The plans by Asuakak Umoh to destabilise the PDP in Ibiono Ibom by using members of the APC to usurp the leadership of Hon Unyime Leo, the PDP Chapter Chairman, is very reckless and we strongly condemn it.
3) We are aware that Hon Asuakak Umoh convened a meeting of APC stakeholders at the Ibiono Ibom Council Secretariat on Saturday, November 8, 2025 where they claim to have passed a vote of no confidence on Hon Unyime Leo in an effort to destabilise the PDP.
4) The PDP in Ibiono Ibom is committed to maintaining peace but also ready to resist every interference in its internal affairs by Asuakak Umoh, using every necessary legal means.
5) Hon Asuakak Umoh was elected to serve the people of Ibiono Ibom and should focus on providing that leadership and not medle in the affairs of the PDP as he is no longer a member of the PDP.
6) We pass an overwhelming vote of confidence on Hon. Unyime Leo and his leadership.
7) Following the dissolution of the Aniekan Akpan led PDP State EXCO and the subsequent appointment of a caretaker committee led by Barr. Igwat Umoren, by the National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP in Ibiono Ibom is strongly behind the Caretaker Committee.
8) We, therefore appeal to you to caution Hon Asuakak Umoh against any further interference in the affairs of PDP in Ibiono Ibom.
We are;
