The failure of Akwa Ibom State Government under the administration of Governor Umo Eno to provide official cars to magistrates appointed to dispense justice in different magistrate courts in Akwa Ibom State has clogged the wheel of justice in the State.
The Guide Newspaper discovered this last weekend while interacting with some magistrates in Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking with the Guide Newspaper correspondent, a magistrate serving in one of the magistrate courts in Akwa Ibom State hinted that due to the failure of the state government to mobilize magistrates in the state with official cars months after appointments, most of magistrates in the state only visit their post of duty once or twice a week.
“It seems that Governor Eno does not understand the critical rule of the judiciary in a democracy. Our inability to visit our place of duty every working day due to lack mobility delays the dispensation of justice in the state,” the magistrate had lamented.
Commenting on the development, a public affairs analyst in Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Ukeme Esifa described the judiciary as a third arm of government in the state that deserves adequate attention from government.
“If Governor Eno is giving out cars to politicians in the state. Magistrates should be giving consideration too because of the role they play in dispensing justice. Judges and magistrates are the people that deserve official vehicle more than any other people.”
“The judicial remain the last hope of the common man in the society. A governor that is not taking good care of the judiciary is encouraging jungle justice,” Comrade Esifa warned.
Comrade Esifa further urgerd Governor Eno to give priority to policies and programmes that have direct impact on the people rather than trying to please politicians who are at the corridors of power for their personal gains
