-as SUBEB warns journalists against visiting schools without approval

By Shadrach Okon

Following a report published by the Guide Newspaper yesterday about twenty (20) missing computer sets at Christ The King Model Primary School Uyo, a team of computer engineers has been mobilized back to the school to fix back the computer sets at the ICT Centre of Christ The King Model Primary School, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.

A source from government who confided in the Guide Newspaper revealed that the 20 computer sets were restored back to the school on Tuesday night around 11pm, on 28th January. Our source revealed that computer engineers were working throughout the night to fix back the computer sets and ensure the smooth running of the ICT Centre of the model school. As at the time of filing this report this morning, work was ongoing at the school ICT Centre, our source has revealed.

On Monday, 27 January, the Guide reporter had paid an unscheduled visit to Christ The King Model Primary School following an information gotten from an insider in government about the foul play between the ministry of Education and the management of Christ The King Model Primary School which resulted in the diversion of 20 computer sets from the school to an unknown destination, few weeks after the school was commissioned.

During the visit as reported in the Guide Newspaper, the Guide reporter was denied access to the ICT Centre of the school. The Head Teacher Mrs Ukeme Udofia had told the Guide reporter that the door to the ICT Centre developed fault last week which the management was yet to rectify.

The Guide Newspaper online report about some dubious acts allegedly carried out in the school by some top officials from the Ministry of Education went viral bringing to public awareness how officials from government sabotage Governor Umo Eno’s effort to develop the state.

In the report, it was revealed how the immediate Commissioner for Education in Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet had allegedly sent some officials from the Ministry of Education to pack away the computer sets provided by Akwa Ibom State Goverment to Christ The King Model Primary School.

According to the report, a team who claimed to work on the instruction of the immediate past Commissioner for Education in Akwa Ibom State Mrs Idongesit Etiebet had came in a vehicle to pack the computer sets away to an unknown destination, few weeks after Governor Umo Eno inspected and commissioned the ICT Centre.

Following the development, The Guide reporter had put a call across to Mrs Idongesit Etiebiet to respond to the indictment, however the immediate past Commissioner for Education did not pick her call nor respond to the text message sent to her mobile telephone line.

Also, information gotten from a reliable source reveals that U&K Limited, the contractor handling the construction project in the school equally mobilized a team of workers back to the school this morning to complete all unfinished work in the model school.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board ( SUBEB) Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, has warned journalists in Akwa Ibom State against visiting schools within the state on a fact- finding mission without getting approval from SUBEB.
Rt. Hon. Etuk, gave the warning while reacting to the report by the Guide Newspaper about 20 computer sets allegedly diverted from Christ The King Model Primary School.

“If you want to visit the school, ensure that you get approval from SUBEB. Once that is done, we will inform the school management and send a staff from SUBEB to accompany you to assess the facility. Don’t just visit a school by yourself with the intention of writing to blackmail the state government.” Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk said.

It would be recalled that during the week, the Guide Newspaper published a report about 20 missing computer sets and shutting down of the ICT Centre of Christ The King Model Primary School by management few weeks after Governor Umo Eno commissioned the model school.

Meanwhile, our source from government has also confided in the Guide reporter that the mattresses provided by the State Government to teachers living at the staff quarters in the model school were also diverted away from the school few days after Governor Umo Eno commissioned the school.
