The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has described as falsehood the claims on social media that it has selected the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate from the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, as its exclusive candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Khalid Arewa, the party dismissed the insinuations as mere rumors and products of the imagination of those spreading them.
The party stated, “ZLP wishes to clarify a misleading post that is circulating on various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), which inaccurately claims our party has offered a free ticket to Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election.”
According to ZLP, “The account where this false information was shared is unfamiliar to us. We do not have control over that account, nor do we have any connection with the individuals behind it.”
“We fully reject this assertion in all its aspects and affirm that the statement does not represent the beliefs, choices, or stance of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP),” it continued.
The ZLP emphasized that, “The leadership and decision-making processes of our party are governed by our Constitution, principles, and values, which do not permit such trivial and baseless claims, as we have no arrangements with anyone regarding any topics related to these false assertions.”
The spokesperson reiterated that, “Once again, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has not yet started conversations with anyone or groups regarding the 2027 Presidential Elections, hence this post is a complete lie from the depths of deception.”
The party cautioned that, “We therefore urge those wishing to exploit the enviable position of ZLP to refrain from doing so, or we will identify them and hand them over to the security agencies.”
He reiterated that, “The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) is a responsible and law-abiding political entity dedicated to fostering democracy, effective governance, and the welfare of all Nigerians.
“We advise the general public to dismiss this misinformation and to depend solely on official communications from our party’s authorized channels. Please take note accordingly.”
