The Director- General of NAFDAC, Prof.Moji Adeyeye, has given Nigerians strong reasons why they should not patronize roadside drug stores and drug vendors scattered around the country.
Prof Adeyeye while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the weekend in Abuja, said most of the drugs sold in the roadside drug stores or peddled by drug vendors are either fake, or poorly stored which could which affect the potency and efficacy of the drugs.
According to her, “Do not buy medicine in the corner store or just somebody that has a kiosk or hawks around.” Go to pharmacy store to buy medicine. It could be costly, but bear in mind that we are in this economic storm because people do not have the money. Do not buy it because it is cheap because harm, affect health, or cause death.”
The NAFDAC DG who also raised alarm on the increase in production and circulation of fake drinks during yuletide season, advised Nigerians to always look out for products that do not carry NAFDAC registration number and expiry date before purchase.
