-Says Gov Becoming Too Garrulous For A Leader
A foremost socio-political group in Akwa Ibom State, Ibom Akwa Ibom (IAI), has cautioned the governor of the state, Pastor Umo Eno against making further reckless utterances that are demeaning, and disrespectful to the people of Akwa Ibom.
The group, in an open letter to the governor with the caption “Governor Umo Eno’s Reckless Utterances: A Call for Caution” and signed by its Secretary General, Comrade Solomon Akpan-obong, described the governor’s remarks at the Town Square Meetings in Ikono/Ini and Etinan Federal Constituencies as distasteful and too low of a leader.
“Your Excellency, we are forced to write this open letter after watching you repeatedly make disrespectful and demeaning remarks during two of the just concluded Town Square Meetings. We are even more worried by the fact that these uncomplimentary remarks by you were made with so much aura of pride and confidence.
“On Thursday, August 21, 2025, we saw how you arrogantly told the people of Ikono/Federal Constituency, that construction of roads has closed for them as far as your current tenure is concerned. And you went further to tell them that the condition for them to benefit from road construction in your second term is for them to vote for you in the 2027 election.
“As an Ibibio son, we had expected you to know better than to publicly spit on the Cradle of Ibibio. We understand that you have the power to deprive any people you wish of any project that you so desire. However, for someone who was clearly the least preferred among the governorship hopefuls ahead of the 2023 election, it is very baffling to see you become to arrogant, boastful and autocratic.
“Again, on Saturday, August 23, 2025 during the Town Square Meeting in Etinan/Nsit Ubium, we sadly watched you describe an Akwa Ibom indigene “ino” meaning “thief” during a public event that was captured by major national television channels in the country. Your Excellency, we would love to remind of the painstaking efforts and huge resources that previous administrations committed to rebuilding the reputation of our dear State.
“With the current trend, we are afraid that by the end of your current tenure in 2027, you would have successfully undone all the good things that other leaders had laboured to do. Many of your uncomplimentary remarks are inciteful and capable of causing animosity among the people of Akwa Ibom. You talk too carelessly and you are becoming too garrulous for a leader,” the group cautioned.
