The Government of Akwa Ibom State within the 2025 fiscal year has so far had a total revenue of N1.27 trillion. This, analysis of the Akwa Ibom State 2025 third quarter budget implementation report has shown.

The report which captures the performance between January and September 2025 and published by the Government of Akwa Ibom State shows the breakdown as follows: N818.1 billion is the revenue share of the State from the Federation Account Allocation Committee, N375.69 billion is the opening balance of revenue brought forward to 2025 from the funds not spent in 2024 while N79.05 billion stood as the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

On a year on year comparison, the N1.27 trillion revenue is the highest financial inflow the State has recorded in its coffers since the creation of the State within a single fiscal year.

The report states that the expenditure of the State within the period stood at N830.2 billion. According to the breakdown, N103.15 billion was disbursed on personnel costs (including pension and gratuity), N128.08 was spent on “other recurrent costs” while N598.98 billion was consumed by capital projects.

Analysis of the amount spent together out of the revenue base shows that N369.8 billion is the remnant revenue taken into the last quarter of 2025.

The 3-page report however did not capture information on how each sector performed.

Presenting the report on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Nsikan Nkan said the 86.9 percent performance of the budget (actual expenditure of N830.2bn over the approved budget of N955bn) was impressive.

He said the performance reflected prudent management and strong budget implementation efficiency across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

According to him, revenue performance and budget discipline were the reason the administration sought for a supplementary budget which was passed by the State House of Assembly and assented to by Governor Umo Eno on October 8, 2025 thus expanding the 2025 budget size to ₦1.65 trillion.

Nkan said the forthcoming fourth-quarter report will capture the revised budget performance, reflecting ongoing and new capital projects of the administration.

On his part, the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Akparawa James Edet, commended the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for sustaining the quarterly briefing.

According to him, the practice demonstrated government openness, democratic governance, and leadership accountability.
