The Guide Newspaper has reliably gathered that the sacked state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Elder Aniekan Akpan, is planning to announce the suspension of the former PDP national legal adviser, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, and the PDP national publicity secretary, Comrd Ini Ememobong.
According to a source close to Elder Akpan, the embattled former state chairman of the PDP is planning to use few ward officers from Barr Enoidem and Comrd Emembong’s wards to announce the suspension, revealing that the plan is to backdate the letter of suspension to a date before the just concluded PDP national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The source however noted that the plan may likely suffer a setback because the constitution of the PDP does not give Ward Executive Committee to power to suspend and discipline, adding that many of those loyal Aniekan Akpan are also aware that his leadership and the entire party structure in the State were dissolved at the convention.
“These few ward officers that he wants to use to execute this plan are aware of the contention in the party and they also want to play safe. They know that Aniekan Akpan’s leadership was dissolved at the national convention which is the highest decision-making body of the party.
“If they go all out against the decision of the national convention, they risk being expelled from the party. We can all see what happened to Wike and his loyalist. How many of the ward officers have the power to challenge the party like that? No.
“So, Aniekan Akpan’s plan to suspend Enoidem and Ini Ememobong may suffer a huge setback because these ward officers also have a lot to lose because Aniekan Akpan is not on the side of the national leadership of the party,” he said.
It can be recalled that among the decisions taken at the PDP national convention in Ibadan, was the dissolution of the state leadership of the party in Akwa Ibom and the entire party structure in the state.
With the dissolution of the entire party structure by the national convention, the Guide Newspaper can authoritatively state that the ward executive committee which Aniekan Akpan plans to use does not exist as all the officers are out of office and the state only has a State Caretaker Committee.
