The Akwa Ibom State Governor pastor Umo Eno began his electioneering on the platter of being a pastor, a claim that endeared many people to him even after he assumed office.
Ever since the Governor stepped out to superintend the affairs of the state, his words, apart from being laced with frivolities, are embedded in lies unbecoming of a man of his position as Governor and Minister of God.
The Governor has exploited the vulnerability of Akwa Ibom people to tell them lies and ride on this, to curry support for himself and sway innocent minds.
In August 2025 the Governor made bold to declare that he had made a donation of two billion counterpart fund available to Bank Of Industry to give out loans to Akwa Ibom people at the lowest interest rate.
“We have given N2bn counterpart funds to Bank of Industry to give out loans to small businesses in Akwa Ibom, says Governor Umo Eno.”
An independent findings by The Guide indicate that till date, the Governor has not paid such amount of money to Bank of Industry.
An official of the bank who did not want his name mentioned in the report, said even the management of the bank was surprised at the extent the Governor could lie to his people.
“It is not in our position to openly fault the Governor, but I can tell you in good authority that the bank has not received such amount.
” If we had received the said amount as claimed by the Governor, many people would have gotten loans from BOI.” Our source said.
During the mid-term report by Governor Umo Eno, the Governor, in his report
titled, “Measuring Progress, Deepening Impact”, which was delivered by Prof. Christopher Ekong at the Government House Banquet Hall during the Governor’s presentation of two years scorecard on Wednesday August 6,2025.
In area of infrastructure and social services, the report indicated that, within the two years, 105 road projects were executed, alongside projects in healthcare, elder care, education, and rural development, generating 19,593 jobs.
The report showed that with two years of his administration, the Governor has constructed 770km roads across the state. However, some road projects listed as part of the ones constructed, completed and commissioned are either ongoing or construction has not yet commenced.
For instance, Construction of 8.5km Nduetong Oku-Ibiaku Uruan-Ekit Itam Road with 60m span Bridge and Spurs in Itu/Uruan LGAs, N1.5 billion was allocated for the road by the Akwa Ibom State government in 2023 which was first awarded in 2017.
Findings reveal that between 2017 and 2023, a total of N5.5 billion was allocated for the road construction. Similarly, an investigative report by by Center for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), indicates that N4 billion was budgeted for the same project between 2017 and 2020 alone.
Meanwhile, as at today, findings revealed that work on the road has barely begun despite nine years of construction. Only drainage systems and ground leveling had been done with no substantial progress.
Research shows that the road construction project was first awarded in 2017 to Slavabogu Construction Limited, a Lagos-based company.
In 2023 when Governor Umo Eno assumed office, the contract, valued at N1.5 billion, was awarded to Ras Premium Construction Company, a firm registered in 2021 with registration number 1859224.
There habey been complaints from residents of the community against Ras Premium Construction Limited, for defiling all known safety measures by channeling water outfall drain to residential area thereby exposing the people to danger.
Some houses along Nduetong road, leading to the defunct School of Accountancy now Uyo City Polytechnic are at the verge of collapse following the development of gully caused from a wrongly terminated outfall by the company.
Our correspondent who visited the community on Sunday, could see a gully approximately 30 meter deep, exposing foundations of people’s houses, putting their lives at risk.
Another road in the list which government has not commenced construction is the 6.4km Dualization of Nung Udoe-Afaha Ofiong Road.
The Governor had when he assumed office, promised to dualise the road. As at yesterday, no part of the road has been marked for construction.
In Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, work has not started on 13.5km Ikot Akpaden-Okoroette Road with 2 bridges, each 20 meters. The road is getting more deplorable immediately after Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden.
The only thing done on the road are patches of construction by Sterling Oil.
Another road on the list presently handled by HENSEK Integrated Service is the construction of 7.8km dualization of phase 3rd Ring Road.
The road, flagged off some months ago is still under construction. From findings, construction of drainages is at its peak while the earth work is ongoing.
On the construction of Mbikpong Ikot Edim -Afaha Ikot Ossom-Ikot Akpaedu Road, which the Governor listed as completed, one of the residents described the claim as false.
“The government only recommenced the construction of a very little section of the road about a month ago.Over 80 percent of that road has not been touched at all.” He said.
