The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has described himself as an underdog politician who had little prospect in politics considering his qualification when compared to the towering profiles of his fellow contenders in 2023.
Governor Umo Eno said this while delivering a Convocation Lecture at the 7th Convocation Ceremony of Mountain Top University (MTU), Ibafo, where he charged graduates to “dream big, start small, and most importantly, start,” stressing that greatness is achieved through discipline, ethical conduct and faith in God.
Eno while addressing the graduands at the convocation ceremony recalled that he had little prospects in politics and was at a disadvantaged position considering who compared with when compared with other governorship aspirants in Akwa Ibom State who contested for the number political office in Akwa Ibom State in 2023.
Sharing his personal experiences to the graduating students, Governor Eno Eno recounted how the death of his father, a police officer who died in active service, shaped his early life, forcing him to support his family by hawking soft drinks on the streets of Lagos while a student at Victory High School in the early 1980s.
He said those humble beginnings ignited his entrepreneurial drive, which later culminated in building one of Akwa Ibom State’s largest hospitality enterprises in Akwa Ibom State.
Governor Eno further claimed at the event that his hospitality enterprises in Akwa Ibom State remain the second largest employer of labour in the state after Akwa Ibom State Civil Service.
