Vice President Kashim Shettima, will tomorrow, Friday, July 10, formally declare open the Permanent Secretaries’ Procurement Retreat, in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The four-day retreat is a high-level, focused, and results-oriented forum for leadership at the apex of the Federal Public Service. It is themed: “Enabling National Development Priorities through Effective Public Procurement.”
The retreat is being organised by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) in collaboration with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
According to the organisers, the retreat is designed to strengthen procurement capacity and governance at the highest level of the Federal Civil Service while providing a platform for strategic alignment ahead of the 2026 budget implementation cycle. It will also enhance coordination across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in support of national development priorities.
The forum will deepen participants’ knowledge of public procurement, address systemic and operational constraints that undermine procurement performance and timely project delivery, and promote the adoption of best practices across the public service in line with national development priorities..
The retreat is also expected to strengthen collaboration among the BPP, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors of Procurement across Federal MDAs, thereby fostering greater policy coherence and institutional effectiveness.
Participants at the retreat will include Permanent Secretaries of Federal Ministries, the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Auditor-General for the Federation, members of the Executive Management Team of the Bureau of Public Procurement, and Directors of Procurement from Federal Ministries.
The retreat will contribute to strengthening strategic leadership intervention, procurement governance and service delivery, improve budget credibility, accountability, transparency, value-for-money, and enhance capacity of Chief Accounting Officers to oversee procurement processes across Nigeria’s public procurement system.
