The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted political parties an additional three days to submit the names and personal particulars of their presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the electoral body announced that the deadline, which was initially set to expire at midnight on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The statement, signed by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, explained that the decision followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which appealed on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates’ details within the original timeframe.
INEC said the extension is intended to give political parties sufficient time to finalize the submission of candidates while ensuring compliance with the electoral timetable and legal requirements.
According to the commission, the move reflects its commitment to conducting an inclusive electoral process without departing from the provisions of the law.
The electoral body urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional time to upload every required document and candidate detail before the new deadline expires.
The extension comes after several political parties reported technical and administrative challenges with INEC’s online nomination portal, making it difficult to meet the initial deadline.
Although the commission had previously maintained that the July 11 deadline would not be extended, it later approved the request following appeals from affected political parties.
