Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a stern warning to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as contractors handling government projects, over the slow pace of work at the Judiciary Quarters project in Uyo, declaring that delays and poor supervision will no longer be tolerated.
Governor Eno gave the warning during an unannounced inspection of the ongoing Judiciary Quarters project on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, where he expressed disappointment after discovering that the construction site was virtually deserted despite government having released funds for the execution of the project.
The Judiciary Quarters project is a 50-unit housing development comprising five-bedroom duplexes designed to serve as institutional accommodation for judges and other top judicial officials in Akwa Ibom State.
Reacting to the situation, the Governor cautioned government officials responsible for supervising and monitoring the project, stressing that his administration should not be compelled to chase contractors and workers to execute jobs they have already been paid to deliver.
He subsequently handed contractors a two-week ultimatum to significantly improve the pace of work or risk having their contracts terminated. Governor Eno also vowed to recover any government funds where necessary, insisting that accountability would be enforced at every level of project implementation.
The Governor further lamented that although many people complain about unemployment, some beneficiaries of government contracts and employment opportunities fail to take them seriously. He maintained that jobs should be earned through commitment, diligence and hard work, rather than through favoritism or handouts.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to timely completion of public projects, Governor Eno directed that the Judiciary Quarters project, which commenced in January 2026, must be completed and ready for commissioning by December this year.
The inspection ended with a clear warning that government projects across the state will be subjected to closer monitoring, while MDAs, contractors and workers who fail to deliver on their responsibilities will face appropriate sanctions.
