A victim of recent flood in Uyo has come out to query the news making the rounds that no life was lost during the recent flood. Mr. Etim Edet, whose house is sited behind Osongama, in an exclusive interview with The Guide, described the crop of government officials who churned out such lie, as criminal.

Narrating the incident, Mr. Edet, said he woke in the middle of the night to see his property and the entire building submerged in water.

“Unfortunately my three children were already drowned in water while asleep. I had to wake them up, picked each of them. I succeeded in pick my two children whom I kept on the fence, as I went inside to pick the third child, I came back to see the fence collapsed while my two children were struggling inside the flood.

“Alex, my first son was badly injured and I had to rush him to the hospital where he was pronounced death. I am deeply saddened that an innocent child could go like that and people in government could have the gut to come out a declare that only animals were lost.

“I honestly do not blame them, but the person who has given them the opportunity to insult our collective sensibility.” He said.

It can be recalled that a day after flood ravaged Uyo metropolis, some media aides to the Governor took to social media to declare that nobody died in the flood, a statement that has sparked reactions from different quarters.

Meanwhile, many people have attributed the flood to government’s negligent, recalling how the state government set up hoc committee on drainage and canal desilting without providing funding for the committee to work.
