The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) has pledged its commitment to work with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to build the capacity of project managers in the country.
The Registrar of the Institute, Mr Henry Mbadiwe, made the pledge when he led a delegation on a visit to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to Mbadiwe, the institute plans to support the Ministers initiatives in the areas of human capital development, planning, delivering and monitoring the Ministry’s initiatives for national development.
“We have started putting together standardisation practices for the profession in Nigeria; against these standards will professionals in project management all over Nigeria be trained and certified to practice.
“We will start to work with other membership regulatory bodies that interface with projects across the country to ensure that we have one view on how to standardise the project sectors.
“This will help to ensure that all stakeholders in project delivery have a voice in shaping the sector,’’ he said.
Mbadiwe said the institute would create project management delivery methodology for practicing project delivery in an ethnic, religious, political, culturally diverse country such as Nigeria.
“The project will be called: Delivering Unified Controlled Agile Project (DUCAP) for project managers in Nigeria.
“As PRINCE to methodology was created by the United Kingdom and PMP (by PMI) the United State, DUCAP will be our own Nigerian methodology suited for our own unique environment.
“We will further deepen our work with the National University Commission in ensuring that the project management curriculum for Nigerian Universities continue to get updated as the profession advances,’’ he said.
Mbadiwe said the institute would work directly with all universities in Nigeria to ensure that project management curriculums are accredited in line with the law.
He said the institute would support them in any way they require to ensure that they have the resources to deliver lectures in the field of project management.
The registrar said the institute would work with the organised private sector, other Ministries, Departments and Agency of government to ensure that they have the necessary skillset to abide by the law.
He said this would ensure that no unqualified person was allowed to practice project management without a licence.
Mbadiwe also informed the minister of the mandate of CIPMN and promised a better future for the profession in Nigeria.
In her responding, the minister appreciated the institute’s visit, adding that its responsibilities were important to the nation.
Uzoka-Anite said it would be of immense benefit to utilise its expertise in managing various initiatives being run within the ministry and the nation at large.
She assured the institute that the ministry was willing to work with the CIPMN and to support it in any way it could to ensure its mandate was achieved
