-Urges Victims to Report Fraudsters as Board Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Retirees’ Entitlements
The Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AK-SUBEB) has warned retired primary school teachers and their families against falling victim to fraudsters demanding money to facilitate or expedite the processing and payment of retirement gratuities.
The Executive Chairman of AK-SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Dr. Anietie Etuk, gave the warning on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while receiving a delegation from the Forum of Retired Primary School Teachers on a courtesy visit to the Board’s headquarters in Uyo.
Dr. Etuk urged retired teachers to reject any financial demands from individuals claiming they could facilitate the payment of their gratuities, stressing the importance of verifying information through official channels before taking action.
He called on retirees who encounter such demands, or possess credible information about suspected fraudulent activities, to report them promptly to the Executive Chairman or the Permanent Secretary of AK-SUBEB for investigation and appropriate disciplinary or legal action against anyone found culpable.
The Chairman also encouraged retired teachers to remain vigilant and use the Board’s official communication channels, including its designated toll-free telephone number, 08000078232 to seek clarification and report suspicious activities.
He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to protecting the interests of retired teachers, promoting transparency and accountability, and ensuring that beneficiaries can pursue their legitimate entitlements without being exploited by unscrupulous individuals.
Dr. Etuk further commended the retired teachers for their years of service to the education sector and expressed appreciation for their visit.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum of Retired Primary School Teachers, Rev. Dr. Felix Ime Cookey, a Peace Ambassador, thanked the AK-SUBEB Chairman for his accessibility, willingness to listen to their concerns, and efforts to address issues affecting retired teachers.
Rev. Dr. Cookey also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D., for what he described as the prompt payment of gratuities since his assumption of office.
In a vote of thanks, the Forum’s Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel S. Udoka, commended both the Board Chairman and the Governor for their concern for the welfare of retired primary school teachers.
