The Supreme Court on Monday in Abuja fined Ambrose Albert Owuru, a former presidential candidate, N5 million for harassing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with a frivolous and vexatious suit. Owuru, who contested the 2019 presidential election against former President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), was ordered to pay N5 million to Tinubu. The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has described report that the French military has established or is planning to establish a base in Nigeria as totally false and mischievous. A five-member panel of the Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision dismissed a suit seeking to remove  President Bola Tinubu from office. The apex court also awarded  a N5 million cost against Chief Ambrose Owuru, the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party, HDP, in the 2019 general election, who filed the suit. Owuru had asked the Supreme Court to sack Tinubu over the claim that he was an active agent of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The Economic Community of West African States will on January 29, 2025 begin the process for Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso to formally withdraw their membership of the regional bloc. It declared a six-month transition period lasting until July 29, 2025, within which it would engage withdrawal protocol.
