A fire incident occurred on Sunday at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, triggering an immediate emergency response by aviation authorities.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident in a statement, saying its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the terminal.
According to the agency, emergency responders were actively working to extinguish the fire while ensuring the safety of passengers, airport personnel, and facilities within the terminal.
FAAN assured the public that no fatalities or injuries had been recorded as of the time of its statement, adding that the situation was under close surveillance by relevant authorities.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the authority stated.
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, FAAN said efforts were ongoing to bring the situation fully under control and evaluate the extent of any damage.
The authority further noted that additional information would be made available as emergency operations continue and investigations into the incident progress.
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub, serves thousands of domestic and international passengers every day.
