Akwa-Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has broken silence on his reported eviction of Channels TV Correspondent, Chris Mofatt, and his cameraman from Government House Uyo Press Corps, saying the action was taken in good faith and not for any punitive motive.
The governor Eno had ordered the eviction of Channels Television’s correspondent and the cameraman from the Government House over a trending defection video.

However, Governor Eno said the Channels crew was not evicted but changed in perceived standard procedure.
“I think it’s within the purview of the CPS to change correspondents within the Government House.
“It is practised all over the world. If you have served at a post for up to 10 years and the CPS decides to ask for a replacement, that is not a fight.

“It is within the prerogative of his office. The governor does not even have to know. So there is no problem. This afternoon, Channels is here beaming us live. We work with all media houses,” he explained.
He maintained that his administration recognizes the place of the media in nation-building and would continue to work with the media as valued partners.

In response to the development, a lawyer and activist, Inebehe Effiong, expressed surprised how the governor became pissed off that Channels TV published a video where he announced to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The activist said Channels TV could not have covered the meeting without invitation.
