The incident occurred in the coastal community, with initial reports indicating that the aircraft crashed in a swampy area near the Naval Base in Igbokoda.

The identity of the helicopter and the number of people on board were not immediately confirmed.

However, authorities have commenced efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash and determine the fate of those on board.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the aircraft crash, saying details were still emerging.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, urged residents of Igbokoda and adjoining communities to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information.

“The Ondo State Police Command confirms the reported aircraft crash in the Igbokoda axis of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday, 5th October 2026. Details surrounding the incident are still emerging, as efforts to establish the full circumstances continue,” he said.

He assured the public that further credible information would be made available as soon as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, security and emergency personnel have moved to the area as efforts continue to assess the crash site and establish whether there are survivors.

The cause of the crash and the identities of those aboard the aircraft remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.
