Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and individuals allegedly linked to the Ekiti State Government House of supporting the attack on him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti.
Sowore made the allegations in fresh statements posted on his verified Facebook page on Friday, following the incident that occurred shortly after he attended an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the individuals who attacked his team came from the Government House and received tracking and operational support from DSS operatives.
According to him, DSS personnel had been following and harassing his team since their arrival in the state on Thursday. He also claimed that the operatives threatened the manager of a restaurant where they had earlier eaten, warning him against allowing the team to use his premises again.
In a separate post, Sowore criticised the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, for describing the incident as an altercation.
He said the police commissioner personally visited the scene and witnessed the injuries sustained by members of his team but accused the police command of downplaying the attack by describing the injuries as minor.
“There was no altercation! We were attacked!” Sowore declared.
He further alleged that the commissioner witnessed the aftermath of the violence and that a video showed him leaving the emergency room after observing the injuries.
Sowore also expressed displeasure over what he described as attempts by the police to trivialise the incident, insisting that he and his team were subjected to a violent attack.
The AAC candidate’s allegations against the DSS and individuals allegedly linked to the Ekiti State Government House had not been independently established as of the time of filing this report.
