The Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Unyime Idem, PhD, has commissioned a newly constructed and fully furnished classroom block with offices at Government Primary School, Ikot Akpa Idem, in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The project is part of Idem’s ongoing commitment to improving educational infrastructure and providing pupils and teachers across the constituency with safe, functional and conducive learning environments.
The new facility, constructed from the ground up, is equipped with desks, tables, chairs, solar-powered lighting and other essential electrical amenities.
According to Idem, the intervention goes beyond providing physical infrastructure, as he hopes the improved learning environment will inspire children to learn, dream and aspire to become leaders and professionals who will contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation.
Represented at the commissioning by a former Executive Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government Council, Hon. Nseobong Umanah, Idem expressed appreciation to the people of the constituency for their confidence, prayers and steadfast support.
He said he remained deeply grateful for the privilege of representing them at the National Assembly, adding that he did not take the mandate for granted.
As the 2027 general elections approach, Idem urged his constituents to remain united and mobilise massively for the success of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno, himself and other candidates of the party.
The lawmaker also appealed to the school management, parents, community leaders and residents of Ikot Akpa Idem to take ownership of the project and protect the facilities from vandalism.
He stressed that public infrastructure belongs to the people and its preservation remains a shared responsibility.
The school management and other stakeholders expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the new facilities would provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning. They also pledged their continued support and loyalty.
The commissioning adds to Idem’s ongoing education intervention across the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, with five school projects delivered under the current intervention programme.
The projects span primary and secondary schools, involving the construction of classroom blocks and offices from scratch, as well as furnishing them with essential facilities to improve learning conditions for children across the constituency.
