The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank Plc, Moruf Oseni, has been appointed Chairman of the Consultative Committee for the 19th Annual Banking and Finance Conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
The two-day conference is scheduled to hold on September 8 and 9, 2026, at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The conference, themed “Building a Resilient Economy in an Era of Disruptions: Strategic Imperatives for the Banking and Financial Services Industry,” will bring together policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, development partners, technology providers, academics and business leaders to discuss challenges facing the financial services industry and the wider economy.
The annual conference is recognised as CIBN’s major knowledge-sharing and solution-driven platform, with discussions expected to focus on practical strategies for strengthening financial institutions and supporting sustainable growth in Nigeria’s banking sector.
Speaking on the conference, Oseni said the 2026 edition had been designed to combine business sessions with programmes focused on young people, cybersecurity and other emerging issues affecting the economy.
“This year, we have curated what is set to be the biggest edition of the CIBN Annual Banking and Finance Conference in years—and by biggest, I am not just speaking about size,” Oseni said.
He said the conference would bring together institutions and stakeholders with the authority to act on recommendations emerging from the discussions.
“For the first time ever, the CIBN Annual Banking and Finance Conference will feature a women-focused programme that will bring to focus the role that women play in building a resilient, inclusive and future-ready economy,” he said.
The programme is expected to produce recommendations that will be documented in a communique and forwarded to relevant stakeholders and policymakers to support decision-making, policy formulation and strategic alignment with global best practices.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, are among the dignitaries expected at the conference.
The 19th CIBN Annual Banking and Finance Conference is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders across the financial sector to exchange ideas and develop practical responses to economic disruptions while exploring strategies for building a more resilient Nigerian economy.
