Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has confirmed that social media personalities and good governance activists, Peter Akah, popularly known as Peter for Nigeria, and Miss Precious Oruche, also known as Mama Pee, honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of naira abuse and have since been released.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Effiong said the duo were initially invited by the anti-graft agency through separate letters dated June 24, 2026, to appear on July 6, 2026, to clarify allegations bordering on the abuse of the naira.
According to the lawyer, the scheduled meeting was postponed after he wrote to the Commission requesting a new date because his clients were unavailable on the original date. The EFCC subsequently rescheduled the meeting to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Effiong disclosed that he accompanied Peter for Nigeria and Mama Pee to the EFCC headquarters, where they met with investigators and cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation before they were released.
He added that the activists returned to the Commission on Thursday as part of the continuing investigation.
The lawyer commended the conduct of EFCC officials during the interrogation, describing their actions as professional.
Addressing the allegations, Effiong said his clients explained to investigators that the items referenced in the case were props money used for entertainment purposes and not genuine naira notes.
He further assured the public that both Peter for Nigeria and Mama Pee are safe and in good spirits, expressing appreciation to Nigerians who showed concern over their welfare.
Effiong said more details on the matter would be made available as the investigation progresses.
