Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in Rivers State.
Fubara announced his decision in a personally signed statement on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
He said the decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with his family, friends and associates.
According to him, the withdrawal was difficult but necessary. He also pledged to support whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate in the state.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” Fubara said.
The development adds a new twist to the APC governorship contest in Rivers State, coming amid intense political interest in the party’s nomination process.
